Team Muffin Top

People often tell me that in real life, I look nothing like my pictures. That’s because in real life you see me as I am…kinda goofy, kinda pudgy (5’4″ and in all of these pics 175lbs–currently I am at 158 (woo hoo!)), and in general I don’t walk around with my head tilted back enough to make my double chin disappear. One time a lady even got angry with me for saying I am Ginger Truitt because I “look nothing like her picture in the paper.” Frankly, I don’t think the pictures I publish are all that great, so it kind of makes me wonder what I really do look like! I am not a natural when it comes to having my picture taken. Typically, we go through nonsense like these first two photos (where I am attempting to pose like a professional model) before we get a halfway decent pic like number three.

Every now and then, I get an idea for a photo shoot that I think will be sexy or cute. Like when we were pulling out of the driveway at the Belizean Bed and Breakfast, and I saw these amazing orange flowers that had fallen from the trees. I thought what could be sexier than a middle-aged woman wearing a sundress and posing on a tire swing in a tropical setting?

IMG_3039 As it turns out, quite a few things could be sexier!

So, I opted to throw on a big floppy hat and take a selfie by the pool instead.

In 2013, I chose to support the movie Muffin Top: A Love Story. I am excited about this movie for a number of reasons, but what resonates with me most is the message about body image. It is one that I needed to hear. My interaction with Team Muffin Top helped me become more confident in the body I am wearing now. Since the age of eleven, I have been waiting to love my body when it becomes thinner or more physically fit. At the age of forty-four (when these pics were taken), it was time to get over the self-loathing and just enjoy what I had! Even if what I had included a double chin, muffin top, saddle bags, flabby arms, etc, etc, etc.

To that end, I decided to submit a picture for the Muffin Top Calendar which will feature regular women whose photos have not been airbrushed or photo shopped. The fun part was taking the pictures. Most of them are hysterically goofy, but out of those 200 I managed a couple of keepers. So, here is the real me!

In the magazines, it always looks so sexy when hair is wind blown. Maybe I just don't know how to work it.

Maybe if I press my hair down against my head, and distort my body into an odd angle, that will help!

I tried to show a little leg, but hubby said it looked like I was wiping my butt.

I tried to show a little leg, but instead it kind of looks like I’ve got a wedgie!

Still appear to be working out a wedgie.

Next, I try that sexy "kick your leg in the air" pose! If only I'd followed my dream of becoming a Rockette.

I bought them at Victoria's Secret, but somehow they just don't look the same as they do on the VS models! Maybe it's that 5'4" 175lb thing I had goin' for me. ;)

Following is a series of somewhat unfortunate events!

Comments

  1. I love the entire piece, especially the photos. I tried something similar once. (Notice I didn’t say twice or even three times) Said photos have since disappeared. Not sure it that was my true mind protecting my delusional self that the photos were great. But it is where EB Heron came from. Love them, Ginger.

  2. Kenneth Barnhouse says:

No wonder Mindy Hoffbower raves about you and your work, You two are two of a kind. Kind of crazy. I love it. I want to see your movie, is it out on DVD?

  3. I love you! 🙂
If you’re ever this way we seriously need to get together.

The pictures are fantastic! How did the calendar come out?

  4. You are utterly adorable and I look forward to reading more of your blog. I have a big thing with body image too and so I really admire you for getting involved with Team Muffin Top. See you the rest of Erma conference!
    Stephanie

I'd love to hear from you!
